BLÜ EYES started releasing singles on Spotify in 2018. Her first EP healing hurts is a great encapsulation of who she will become as an artist. The EP deals with harsh subjects like body dysmorphia, depression, and suicide. Healing hurts is not an album for the faint of heart because of how palpable the lyrics feel. This came from her heart as she fights her inner demons. From the gate, she is a talented lyricist, and her voice is soft in its accompaniment, but it does not have the confidence that more established artists find. BLÜ has a comforting voice, but there is nothing that stands out about it, yet. The production behind the songs is stronger than a generic pop-synth and the listener can tell that each added portion had a reason—whether it allowed the strength of the moment to sink in or helped the melancholy and bittersweet juxtaposition resonate.
This album shows great promise for BLÜ EYES’ career as an artist and storyteller.
Rated eight out of ten.
