As a chronically online person, I was scrolling through the depths of Tiktok when I first discovered Sarah Kinsley. The Tiktok was a short visual teaser for her new single “Fleeting”, and in those 30 seconds, I was instantly and automatically attracted to her vibe and style of music. Sarah Kinsley is an Asian American singer-songwriter who specializes in alt and indie pop, who has also released several other albums in previous years. Her hit song that made her recognized was “The King” back in 2021, but I did not discover her until last year. And after watching that one Tiktok, I liked it, and waited until the single was out, then I waited until the whole album was out.
When the album first came out, I think I actually transcended into a heaven made in the 70s. Every little detail was just perfect. The songs were better than I imagined and had so much diversity, and the album cover matched the music to a T. This album made me want to scream with my car windows down, but also cry for hours in my bed, that is the duality of women. The meaning of this album is on the sadder side. Kinsley expresses themes of loneliness and giving
listeners courage because she emphasizes that not everything is forever. While the album only contains five songs, it made a heavy impact on me. It questions the subject of being alone, and how to not only accept it, but to enjoy it. A lot of her target audience and Gen Z struggle with those things, and her music and messages flawlessly show that.
The most popular song on her album is Lonely Touch, this song went viral on Tiktok, gaining a lot of attention. This song ties in with the whole meaning of the album, yearning for something more in life. Her more melancholy songs on this album are, in my opinion, Reverie and After All. But my favorite song on this album is “Truth of Pursuit.” This is because Kinsley displays lyrics of delusion and being crazy about love, which I know this is something everyone
can relate to. During my freshmen year of college, I have fallen into this trap and she validates me and supports me. And this is why I have to thank you Sarah Kinsley for once again doing it for the girls and the gays.
