Björk /// Fossora

By Jaden Reynolds

Fossora is Björk’s big return after a hiatus lasting 5 years. I’ve been a massive Björk fan for a while and was super excited for this to release. She is always trying new things and regardless of if I connect with them or not, I still respect her constant progression throughout the 30 years after her debut. Sadly, this album didn’t connect with me very much. The wind instruments and booming 808s were interesting in concept but didn’t feel fully fleshed out in the first half. I believe this album’s second half though, is phenomenal and can stand up to the rest of her work. With some songs sounding like a mix of Vespertine and Utopia, it was a welcome switch in style from the first half. Instead of constant 808s, it felt more reserved, saving the drums for moments when they could really pop. Although I don’t think every idea she threw at the wall stuck on this album, it’s still great to hear from Björk and see the growth in her artistic vision.
