Weyes Blood /// And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow

By Jaden Reynolds

For the first time since her 2019 masterpiece Titanic Rising, Weyes Blood is back in spectacular fashion. Announcing her new album titled And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow back in September of 2022, I could barely contain my excitement. I truly believe that Weyes Blood has one of the best voices of our generation and she did not disappoint here. This album, from front to back, is stunning.

The opener It’s Not Just Me, It’s Everybody builds on itself with very lush and intentional instrumental choices backed by her beautiful voice that pierces the listeners ears. It is not only a highlight of the album, but one of the best songs released this year.

Another highlight of the album for me is God Turn Me Into A Flower. After the meat of the song is done, it has an almost two-minute-long outro that I just cannot get enough of.

Not only are the tracks individually breathtaking and catchy, but the album as a whole, is one of the most complete things I’ve heard in a long time. Every single moment on this thing has a purpose that feeds into the overall composition of the album. It’s safe to say I fell in love with Weyes Blood’s music all over again with this release. It made me feel the same passion I felt when I first heard Titanic Rising for the first time and has completely shattered my expectations. It has claimed the title as one of the best releases of this year and maybe even the decade so far : )

Rated nine (and a half) out of ten
